Hello. My name is Phillippia Fuqua.
I am a mother and a licensed & certified Visual Arts teacher. During my first years of being a classroom teacher, I worked hard to find the best ways to teach art. I know the struggle of finding what “works” and how intimidating it can feel.
Over time, I refined my art lessons and methods. My students began to medal in art contests and my peers began to give my program recognition. Most of all, my students felt successful and encouraged to create.
Why is it called “Unschooled”?
Merriam-Webster defines unschooled as “untaught” or “untrained”. In the early years of my art journey, everything that I knew about art was self-taught. I watched Bob Ross on public television, checked out art books from my local library and drew my favorite cartoons on my bedroom walls. That is how I started out and our “unschooled” moniker pays homage to that.
