Our values

Unschooled.art is a website that offers art lessons for student in grades K-12. Parents of homeschooling students and experienced art teachers will find our lessons helpful in creating a well-rounded, standards-based art curriculum. We also maintain an art education blog packed with useful information for all art lovers.

Our lessons are age-appropriate for both primary and secondary students. Some lessons may be targeted to a specific age group, while others are adaptable for any age group. For example your 3rd grader and your 8th grader could do the same lesson, with small adjustments made for their differences in skill/experience. This could be as simple as the 3rd grader using tempera paint while the 8th grade uses the more difficult watercolor paints. These accomodations would be listed in each lesson.

Yes. We strive to make all of our lessons family friendly. We want to make art accessible to all age groups. If you have watched any of our YouTube videos, you have a good idea of how we censor images to make our content comfortable for as many families as possible.

Examples: Watch our Van Gogh video to see how we handled his death and mental health topics or watch our video on Cubism to see how we handled nudity.

While our curriculum does not explicitly incorporate religious themes, art itself can be a deeply spiritual and personal experience. For example, the The Book of Kells is a Bible manuscript that contains the four Gospels of the New Testament. Andrea Mantegna’s Lamentation of the Christ depicts Jesus’ body after the Crucifixion. If religion is relevant to the art, it is discussed.

Our curriculum explores the diverse ways in which artists have used their craft to convey messages, tell stories, and evoke emotions. We believe that studying art history and techniques can foster creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives. Our goal is to present art objectively, allowing students to interpret and connect with the material in their own way.

Currently, unschooled.art does not offer live, online classes. However, this is in our roadmap for the future. Live online classes is a feature that we plan to offer as we grow.

There are no long-term contracts. You can purchase lessons one at a time. If you choose to sign up for an all-inclusive monthly membership, you may cancel at any time. Once you initiate a cancellation, your account will remain active for the remainder of the current month and not renew when the new term begins. We do not prorate refunds for partial months due to cancellations.

Due to the nature of digital goods, refunds are generally not offered once our online course materials have been accessed. We strongly encourage anyone interested in our paid lessons to first complete one of our free courses. This will give you an idea of what is contained in each lesson and the quality of our courses before you make a purchase.
